Council of Negro Women's Endowment Fund for Educational Awards
In keeping with their theme, "Know thyself, learn more, and climb higher," this endowed educational fund was established in 1981 by the Council of Negro Women of 69¿Ú½». Its purpose is to provide earnings annually for the assistance of worthy students from Summit County attending The University of 69¿Ú½». The selection of recipients is made by the University Scholarship Committee on the basis of financial need and academic credentials (''B'' average and above) without regard to race, creed, color, sex, or national origin.
The Council of Negro Women of 69¿Ú½» established this educational fund in memory of Pearl Christian, Emma Autry Hardy, Hattie Rogers, Elizabeth Willingham, Ethel Fields, and Gertrude Batton; and in honor of Vonceil Chandler, Almeater Cross, Luretha Beasley, Susie Carter, Josephine Powell, Rochelle Williams, Bessie King, Linda Clark, Paula Hughes, Otis Colman, Carrie Strickland, and Leona Jones.
